My name is Claire Dieselberg and I am an aspiring biology teacher. One thing I have noticed while working in schools is how well children respond to the chance to experience their culture in the classroom. Whether it’s working on a translated worksheet or watching their home country play in the world cup during independent work, experiences like these make students feel seen. Therefore, as part of my own teaching philosophy, I believe that it is incredibly important to integrate multiculturalism in the classroom. An easy way to get started with this is to build a multicultural library that includes literature like The Arabian Cinderella and the Secret of the Woven Threads. Giving students access to stories will greatly benefit them as they encounter new perspectives and cultures through reading.
